BERTIE HUDSON
1960s Soho
Across the road from where our store is now The Beatles were recording ‘Hey Jude’ at Trident Studios. The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin were playing at The Marquee Club just a few doors down and Ella Fitzgerald was headlining at Ronnie Scott’s.
It was an extraordinary place and time.
It was the centre of the British film and music industries and it was filled with Italian coffee bars, Skiffle and Trad Jazz clubs mixed with strip clubs and sex shops that bustled with trendy young fashionistas. People flocked to sample the new sounds and naughty night life, and here lies the inspiration for our collection of eyewear.
Bold, strong styles with unpretentious vibes from a Soho long gone – but not forgotten.
Ours is a collection that is born from the golden age of eyewear, an age when we realised we can wear spectacles as a fashion statement rather than as a medical device, a time when young people were determined to be seen and heard, a concept that caused a style explosion.
